Day 2 - Sunday

Got a terrible nights sleep last night. Shaun and Sarah were out cold within minutes, but after 2 hours of lying on the floor I was not asleep. I hopped about in my sleeping bag a bit, fell over numerous times (much to an old couples amusement) and eventually fell asleep about 2 hours away from France. An hour later I was awoken by an announcement telling me that I could no longer buy ferry-related souvenirs from the ferries shop. Fantastic.

As we were packing our stuff up on the ferry, ready to go and ask some passengers for a lift, we were approached by a bloke who asked us about our hitch t-shirts, and what we were doing. We got talking and it turned out he was driving to Alicante, Spain! This was perfect, and we were quick to take up the offer of a lift!

We got into the car with huge grins on our faces, especially mine at the prospect of some sleep! Dave was a top bloke who used to the in the Navy. We disembarked the ferry and headed for Rouen, then Chatres, moving onto Tours and eventually Poitiers. Over the 9 hour journey I slept about an hour – not brilliant, but at least something!

Dave had planned his trip well, and aimed for ‘Hotel Formule 1’ which was €30 per room per night - €10 each. This was perfect for our budget! The room was really nice (surprisingly!), with a double bed and a single bunk above it. No complaints at all. After grabbing some much needed food, we all bedded down early. I was worried about Shaun’s wondering hands in the night, but I fell asleep far too quickly to say anything!

PS – Shaun has been asleep more than he has been awake so far!
